Garrett Pape threw 3 touchdown passes, two of those to tight end Andrew Rebol, as the Fort Morgan Mustangs defeated the Brush Beetdiggers, 42-22, in the opener for both teams at Legion Field in Fort Morgan.
Brush’s touchdowns came on an 80 yard kickoff return by Joe Rosenbrock in the 1st quarter, a Skyler Seewald 10 yard run in the 2nd quarter and a scoring pass from QB Eric Garcia to C.J. Kukus in the game’s waning moments.
The Beetdiggers will be back in action when they play their home opener on September 11th vs. Holy Family.
The Brush Beetdiggers softball team opened up their season on August 29th by destroying Arrupe Jesuit on the road by a score of 33-0 with 19 runs in the 3rd inning.
In their home opener on September 1st, the Beetdigger bats were stymied in a 3-0 loss to the Fort Lupton Blue Devils. Two days later, however, Erin Berg picked up the win on the hill and Brush beat Limon for the first time in school history in a 12-2 win as the ‘Diggers scored 6 runs in the 4th inning, all with 2 outs.
Next up for Brush will be the Berthoud Tournament in Loveland on September 11th and 12th with the Beetdiggers facing Greeley Central and Longmont on the 11th.
The Denver Post picked 5 high school football games this season you don’t want to miss – and Brush is featured in 2 of the 5! The Brush v. Fort Morgan game on September 4 and the Brush v. Holy Family on September 11 are both expected to be exciting games. The Beetdiggers are going to be great fun to watch this season and we’ll have all the action on KSIR and at www.ksir.com!
