Conner Weisser scored his 2nd touchdown of the game, a 2 yard dive with only .7 left as the Beetdiggers won in Englewood and made their first state championship game since 1998.
Brush grabbed a 14-0 lead on first quarter touchdown runs from Skyler Seewald and Weisser, but back came Kent Denver, which capitalized on 2 Brush turnovers with 18 points in the 2nd on a 59 yard scoring run by Matt Florence and 2 touchdown passes from Richard Yates.
Kent Denver extended the lead to 25-14 when Collins Gantz returned the 2nd half kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown, but in the waning moments of the 3rd quarter, Seewald scored from 6 yards away shortly after Kyle Hefner recovered a Yates fumble. Seewald also ran in the 2 point conversion cutting the Kent Denver lead to 25-22. After Brush stopped Kent Denver on the next possession, the Beetdiggers took over at the 20 yard line with 8:17 remaining and called their final timeout with 6 seconds to go and the ball on the Sun Devils 2 yard line. Weisser then proceeded to run the football around the left side and dive into the end zone for the dramatic victory.
Brush will play Olathe for the 2A title on Saturday from Legacy Stadium in Aurora. Beetdigger Blastoff kicks off the coverage at 9:00 a.m. with kickoff at 11:00 and replay of the game to follow.
