The Beetdiggers closed the first quarter on a 15-0 run and the 3rd quarter on an 8-0 run in advancing to the 3A state quarterfinals with the win at Pinnacle High School in Federal Heights. Kolby Wahlert scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half while CJ Kukus and Kolby Needens added 11.
After losing in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinals to Eaton on February 22nd, Brush has won 4 games in a row. It started with a 67-63 triple overtime win over Mead from Highland High School in Ault in the Patriot League tournament consolation semifinals on February 24th. One day later, Wahlert hit a baseline runner with 3.9 seconds to go in a 46-45 edging of Platte Valley in the 5th place game from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
After being given the 27th seed in the 32 team 3A state tournmanent, the Beetdiggers knocked off the host school, 6th seeded Pinnacle, 59-49, in overtime on March 4th as Wahlert tallied 8 of his 24 points in the extra session.
Brush, which is 17-7, will face 20-4 Valley at 11;45 a.m. on Thursday, March 10th from Moby Arena in Fort Collins beginning at 11:45 a.m. on 1010 KSIR and www.ksir.com.
